NEWS: Collegiate Sports Attorney Mit Winter Joins Snodgrass Partners

OVERLAND PARK, KANSAS. April 15, 2019 – Snodgrass Partners, Inc., a Sports Consulting, Executive Search and Leadership Development firm, today announced the appointment of Mit Winter, J.D., as Vice President, Legal Affairs and Collegiate Sports. He has spent his career as an attorney representing clients in the college sports industry.

Winter is a former DI basketball player who has deep experience with
the legal challenges college sports programs face.

With the college sports world currently facing a myriad of issues, working with Snodgrass Partners is the perfect opportunity to combine my experience helping collegiate sports entities solve their legal issues with my background as a Division I basketball player,” said Winter. “I’m excited to join the team and am looking forward to assisting Snodgrass Partners’ clients on a wide range of projects.”

His unique background ranges from litigating high-profile challenges to NCAA bylaws to analyzing realignment and Title IX issues for collegiate conferences. Early in his career, he represented the NCAA in In re NCAA I-A Walk-on Football Players Litigation (“In re Walk-ons”) and White v. NCAA while working for the national law firm Bingham McCutchen in San Francisco.

Mit has worked on numerous legal matters for collegiate sports clients,” said Steve Snodgrass, Founder and CEO. “He has dealt with many of the legal challenges that conferences and their member schools are faced with in administering and sponsoring high profile collegiate sports programs. He has earned a reputation for his knowledge and integrity across college sports.”

Winter then spent almost seven years representing the Big 12 and Conference USA in a wide range of matters while working for the Polsinelli law firm. These matters have included, among others, further challenges to the NCAA’s limit on the value of an athletic scholarship, conference realignment matters, matters relating to conference broadcast agreements, assisting with objections to open records requests, Title IX issues, and concussion matters.

More recently, Mit worked at the Polsinelli law firm from 2011 until January 2019 representing the Big 12 and Conference USA in a wide range of matters. Those matters have included, among others, further challenges to the NCAA’s limit on the value of an athletic scholarship (O’Bannon v. NCAAAlston v. NCAA, and Jenkins v. NCAA), conference realignment matters, matters relating to conference broadcast agreements, assisting with objections to open records requests, Title IX issues, and concussion matters.

As a result of this experience, Mit has dealt with many of the legal challenges that conferences and their member schools are faced with in administering and sponsoring high profile collegiate sports programs.  Mit is currently an attorney with the Kansas City law firm Kennyhertz Perry, LLC, where he focuses on collegiate sports and business litigation matters.

He earned his undergraduate degree from William & Mary, where he was a four-year letter winner on the men’s basketball team. He was named a Colonial Athletic Association Scholar Athlete and was a recipient of a William & Mary President’s Award for Leadership, Sportsmanship, and Citizenship his senior year.  In 2005, he graduated from the University of San Francisco School of Law, where he was a member of the USF Law Review.
