SP Athletics Welcomes Ted Breidenthal to Leadership Team

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Sept. 25, 2025 – SP Athletics is proud to announce the addition of Ted Breidenthal, a nationally recognized leader in collegiate athletics, to its leadership team as an Athletic Development Director and Advisor. For more than three decades, Breidenthal has advanced collegiate sports through visionary leadership and a steadfast commitment to the student-athlete experience.

Most recently serving as Commissioner of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC), Breidenthal led the nation’s oldest and most tradition-rich NAIA league for the past two years. Under his guidance, the KCAC continued as a model of stability and growth, pioneering initiatives such as the conference’s first million-dollar revenue-sharing streaming deal, modernized governance and operations, and enhanced championship experiences for student-athletes.

Earlier in his career, Breidenthal served as Commissioner of the NAIA’s Continental Athletic Conference, guided NCAA Division III independent schools, and held key leadership roles with the NCAA national office, the Citizenship Through Sports Alliance, and the Amateur Baseball Umpires Association. His work has been instrumental in advancing equity and opportunity, including his leadership in NAIA legislation requiring every institution to designate a Senior Woman Leader (SWL) role in athletics – a historic step in expanding women’s leadership in college sports.

“Ted brings a remarkable depth of experience, a proven ability to build trust, and a relentless focus on student-athletes,” said Tom Jacobs, Co-Founder and Partner at SP Athletics. “His vision and values align perfectly with our mission, and we are excited to welcome him to our team. We know his leadership will strengthen our ability to serve our partners, institutions, and the athletes who are at the heart of everything we do.”

Breidenthal and his wife, Joni, reside in Leawood, Kansas. They are the proud parents of three daughters – Hallie, Laney, and Julia – and honor the memory of their late son, Teddy. Both Hallie and Julia competed as NCAA Division III student-athletes.
