Two chairs symbolize Mike Goff’s career journey – one on the client side of the table and one on the agency side of the table. He’s sat in both. And, it’s that unique, 360-degree experience that led him to form Goff + Marketing, a consultancy that offers strategic services for both clients and agencies that focuses on sports marketing, brand strategy, message strategy, marketing communications, social and digital media, and lifestyle/sponsorship marketing strategic services.
Mike is an accomplished marketer with a career that has spanned a variety of brands and marketing assignments, all with the common denominator of his successful over-delivery of business results coupled with a knack for building winning partnerships.
Most recently, Goff was Executive Vice President at Barkley, the largest employee-owned advertising agency in the U.S. and one of the top five independent agencies in the country. He co-managed the account management team there and led client relationships with Hershey, Russell Athletic and others.
Goff was President, Premier Sports Management prior to joining Barkley. He led that company’s sports marketing to name, brand, position and launch the new College Football Playoff in 2013. His client partnerships at Premier included the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, NCAA, Smithfield Farmland, National Association of Basketball Coaches, Lowe’s, Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City, and The University of Kansas Health Services.
The majority of Goff’s career was spent at Sprint serving in a variety of marketing roles. Goff’s most recent responsibilities at Sprint included brand strategy, brand management, brand identity and brand communications; advertising, digital communications and social media; retail communications, collateral and packaging; direct marketing; and campaign integration.
He managed a Top 10 U.S. brand (as measured by media spending) and was instrumental in leading Sprint’s brand health turnaround in 2010-2012 – a period where the brand experienced growth that dramatically outpaced the competition. He led the “Now Network” campaign that won a Cannes Gold Lion for Integrated Campaign – the most prestigious award in advertising.
He has been recognized nationally and locally for his career accomplishments. Goff was named one of the 100 Most Powerful People in Sports by The Sporting News during his sports marketing tenure at Sprint. And, in 2012 he was recognized by the local chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators as that group’s Arthur E. Lowell Award winner, given to communicators in Kansas City who have combined exemplary career accomplishments with ethical excellence and a commitment to the local community.
